Prostate Cancer Petition
May 20, 2008 – 5:26 pmI received this email from Darryl Mittledorf, please read and respond.
Dear Karen: Very nice blog about prostate cancer, and glad to see you contributing to our prostate cancer listserv. Please add a link in your blogroll to our Petition to Make Prostate Cancer a National Priority, at http://www.prostatecancerpetition.org and perhaps write a post about it. We are all in the fight against prostate cancer, together, and we must all help each other as best as we can.
Regards,
Darryl

In several of the men’s health issues groups some have lamented that congress does not provide as much funding for prostate cancer as they do for breast cancer. I do have something to add to that:
Yes, the research funding at this point in time is weighted in favor of breast cancer research, however, for decades there had been absolutely no funding for women’s health issues at all. All cardiac research, etc. was performed on males and it was assumed that cardiovascular issues were the same for women as men. We now know that isn’t true.
Women have had to fight for many years to get noticed, to put our health issues before the public. Prior to this, we received little to no funding whatsoever as the mainstream assumption was that health conditions were the same for females as males.
Another issue I have with the billions and billions of dollars spent on ‘research’ is that there is very little sharing of findings between disciplines. Hello??? The cure for cancer is here staring us in the face and it starts with proper nutrition. That’s another post I will be getting to.
So, please, support the request for more funding for prostate cancer…as there is more than one way to skin a cat, so to speak! If we all come together with the answers that we already have, we could make so much more progress on prevention of disease than reacting to it in finding a cure. After all, that ounce of prevention truly is worth a pound of cure!
Til next time…..

One Response to “Prostate Cancer Petition”
Thanks for this. My husband is diagnosed with prostate cancer. I signed the petition and encourage others to do so, too. After all, how are our men going to get cured if we don’t all demand more funding for research.
